However, as the cat wandered near the stove, the oil-soaked bandage caught fire. Startled, the poor cat ran wildly through the room, and in its panic, dashed across the cotton bundles. As a result, the bundles caught fire, burning the valuable cotton.

The three other partners, who had suffered heavy losses due to the fire, blamed the partner responsible for the injured leg. They believed he was at fault and demanded compensation.
