A Father's Doubt, A Judge's Wisdom: The Tale of Rama’s Quest for Justice and a Shocking Revelation

 A Father's Concern:

When Rama's father learns that his son has been made a judge with the title of Rama, he becomes worried about his son's moral standing. He urges Rama to step down from the position, warning him that even the gods find it difficult to carry out justice without falling into sin. Rama reassures his father, saying that the Lord will guide him in dispensing justice. Despite this, Rama’s father leaves in frustration, fearing the consequences of his son's future actions.

The Crime Witnessed by Rama’s Father:

On his journey away from his son, Rama’s father stays in a house where the elder wife is asleep, and the younger wife secretly brings her lover inside. In the dead of night, the younger wife, driven by jealousy, kills the child of the elder wife and goes to Rama to pray for help. Rama’s father witnesses the crime but decides to observe how his son handles the case without interfering.

The Trial and Revelation:

The next day, the younger wife accuses the elder wife of the murder. With no witnesses to prove the crime, Rama instructs both women to walk naked around the assembly three times to reveal the truth. The younger wife is willing, but the elder wife refuses, preferring death to such humiliation. Convinced by this, Rama declares the elder wife innocent. The younger wife confesses to the crime and is sentenced to death after receiving her due punishment.

A Father’s Pride:

After seeing the wisdom with which his son handled the case, Rama’s father is filled with pride. He returns to his son and blesses him, recognizing that Rama has been given divine wisdom to judge fairly. He praises his son’s righteousness and prays for his long life before returning home.

Summary of the Story:

The story revolves around the moral journey of Rama, a man appointed as a judge, and the doubt his father has regarding his son's ability to administer justice without falling into corruption. A crime occurs during his father's travels, where the younger wife kills the elder wife’s child out of jealousy. The father witnesses this crime but waits to see how Rama handles the situation. During the trial, Rama, using wisdom and insight, uncovers the truth and delivers a just verdict, proving his righteousness. The story concludes with his father blessing him for his just and wise actions.
