1. The Beginning of Drought
In a small village called Ponnipuram, the people depended on agriculture for their livelihood. A young boy named Janav lived there with his mother. One day, Janav curiously asked, "Mother, why is rain so important?" His mother smiled and said, "Just wait and see what happens if there is no rain for a year..."
That year, the rains failed. The land cracked, the crops withered, and the river shrank. People struggled to find food and water.

As Janav walked back home, he saw many cattle suffering from thirst. Chickens wandered aimlessly in search of food. The cows looked weak and exhausted.
Under a tamarind tree, an old man sighed, "If the rain doesn't come, things will only get worse. Can life exist without water?"
When Janav reached home, he asked his mother with concern, "Mother, will everyone suffer like this if there is no rain? People, animals, and birds—all seem to be in distress!" His mother picked up a dry, fallen leaf and said, "Yes, my son. No rain means no greenery. That’s why Thiruvalluvar said: 'If the sky fails to rain, hunger will afflict the vast world.'
Without rain, the whole world suffers from hunger. Humans and all living beings will struggle to survive," she said, her eyes filled with empathy.
3. The Arrival of Rain
One day, dark clouds covered the sky. A strong wind blew across the village. Suddenly, with a loud thunderclap, the rain began to pour!
People rejoiced and danced in the rain. Farmers eagerly plowed their fields again, and the river flowed with fresh water. Janav, watching the scene, exclaimed, "Now everyone will be happy, right, Mother?" "Yes, my son. Rain is the true source of life," his mother replied with a smile.
4. Protecting Nature
Janav now understood the importance of rain. He told his friends, "We must not cut down trees. If we protect nature and grow more greenery, rain will never leave us!" The villagers started planting trees. They also kept the river clean. From then on, their village always received good rainfall, and the people lived happily.
Rain is not just water—it is life itself!
